Blog Ideas That Make Money: What I Would Write About Today

I have spent years staring at beautiful websites I built for other people. I’m a designer and developer, so making things look good is easy for me.

But actually writing something? That was the hard part.

I wanted to start a blog for such a long time. I would open my laptop, admire my clean code, and then… nothing. I had absolutely zero blog ideas.

I thought I had to be a professional writer to start. Or that I had to write boring diary entries about my day as it was 2005.

I was wrong.

I finally started my blog a year ago. I’m still figuring things out, but I have learned one massive lesson: Profitable blogs don’t need to be complicated. They just need to answer specific questions.

If you are stuck staring at a blank cursor today, I think I can help you. I’m going to write an overview of the profitable topics that people are actually searching for.

These are the exact topics I would write about if I had to start today.

The Golden Rule of Money-Making Posts

Before we get to the list, you need to know one thing.

To make money, your blog needs to be helpful. You are not writing a diary. You are writing a solution.

  • Bad Idea: My morning routine.
  • Good Idea: How to create a morning routine for busy moms.

See the difference? One is about me. The other is about helping you in a really specific way.

Here are the best categories to focus on.

Blog ideas for comparison posts and reviews

1. The “Vs.” Posts (Comparison)

From my research, these are, in my opinion, the best blog ideas for making money.

People reading these posts have their credit cards out. They know they want to buy something, but they can’t decide which one.

If you help them decide, and they click your link, you get a commission (this is called affiliate marketing).

Ideas to steal:

  • Mailchimp vs. ConvertKit: Which is better for beginners?
  • Bluehost vs. SiteGround: The truth about hosting.
  • iPhone vs. Android: A switchers guide.
  • Nike vs. Adidas running shoes for flat feet.

It really is that simple. You just need to find the right comparisons that your readers are already struggling with.

2. The “Best Of” Lists

This is the bread and butter of profitable blogging. These posts are easy to read and super helpful. Of course, this is super saturated but in specific niches, you can still find something to write about.

So, you are basically doing the research so your reader doesn’t have to.

Ideas to steal:

  • 10 Best Budget Laptops for Students.
  • The 5 Best Dog Foods for Golden Retrievers.
  • 7 Best Organic Fertilizers for Vegetable Gardens.
  • The Best Travel Backpacks for Europe.

My tip: Be honest. If a product is bad, say it. People trust you more when you aren’t just saying everything is “amazing.”

3. The “How-To” Tutorials

These posts bring in the most traffic.

When people have a problem, they ask Google “How do I…?” If you have the answer, they will come to your site. Once they are there, you can sell them a course, an ebook, or recommend tools.

Ideas to steal:

  • How to start a vegetable garden in a small apartment.
  • How to build a budget in Excel (Free Template).
  • How to train a puppy to sit in 3 days.
  • How to install WordPress for beginners.

4. The “Mistakes to Avoid” Post

I love these posts because they are scary.

Humans are wired to avoid pain. We are more likely to click on “5 Mistakes That Will Ruin Your Credit Score” than “How to Have Good Credit.”

Use your own failures here. It makes you look human and trustworthy.

Ideas to steal:

  • 7 Mistakes I Made When I Started Investing.
  • Don’t Buy a Used Car Until You Read This.
  • Common Keto Diet Mistakes That Stop Weight Loss.
  • Why Your Tomato Plants Keep Dying (And How to Fix It).

These titles create curiosity, I usually click them as well as I want to know how to avoid mistakes.

5. The “Case Study” (Proof it Works)

This is where you show off your expertise (the E-E-A-T part of blogging).

Don’t just tell people how to do something. Show them that you did it.

Ideas to steal:

  • How I Saved $10,000 in One Year.
  • Case Study: How We Grew Our Traffic by 50% in 30 Days.
  • I Tried Waking Up at 5 AM for a Month: Here is What Happened.

How to Never Run Out of Ideas Again

Even with this list, you might hit a wall next month. It happens to the best of us.

What I have found for myself to find endless blog ideas:

Use Google’s Autocomplete.

Go to Google. Type in your main topic (like “Camping”). Don’t hit enter. Just look at what Google suggests.

  • Camping for beginners
  • Camping checklist
  • Camping with dogs

Those are all things people are searching for right now. Write those posts!

But here is the hard truth: Blogging is a long game. You won’t rank on page one tomorrow. It takes time to get noticed.

While autocomplete is great for quick ideas, it is also a really good idea to learn proper Keyword Research tools eventually. And once you hit publish? You need to learn about Marketing and sharing your work. You can’t just build it and hope they come (trust me, I tried have optimized and worked with dozen of websites, ecommerce shops, blogs etc).

Conclusion

Blogging is an interesting path that helps you organize your ideas and thoughts. And it would be great if you can make money with it as well.

You don’t need to be a genius. You just need to answer the questions people are asking.

Here is what I want you to do next:

Pick one idea from the list above. Just one. It should be something that you know and feel good about. Then type it into Google and see if anybody has written about it.

Don’t worry about the rest yet. Just start as did I.

And one last thing: If you are worrying that website creation is too hard, then use Kinsta. It handles the heavy lifting so you don’t have to stress about the tech. Yes, I promote it, and you get a discount if you use my link!

What is the first topic you are going to tackle? Let me know!

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I know if my blog idea is actually good? Google it! Seriously. If you see ads or other articles, that is a good sign. It means people care about it. If there are zero results, it might mean nobody is searching for it.

2. Do I need to be an expert to write about a topic? Nope. You just need to know a tiny bit more than the person reading. Or, be honest and say “I am learning this, come learn with me.” People love that authenticity.

3. What if I have too many ideas and can’t pick one? Pick the one you can write 10 articles about without getting bored. Passion fuels consistency, and consistency makes money.

4. How many posts do I need before I launch? Don’t overthink it. Launch with 3-5 solid posts. You don’t need a library to start; you just need momentum.

5. Can I write about multiple topics? Try to stick to one main theme (like “Gardening” or “Budget Travel”) at first. It helps Google understand who you are. You can always branch out later!
